Don’t worry — you’re not alone. There are around 8 million of us around the world.
My name is Olivier, and I created Ride your Diabetes.
Type 1 diabetes isn’t the end for you.
Take your time. Learn how your body works.
Climb back up — at your own pace.
My story, and the stories of others, are here to show you that it’s possible.
New to type 1 diabetes?
I found out everything all at once.
The news hit me just before my 32nd birthday.
I was athletic, “young,” living a healthy, simple, and happy life.
I didn’t smoke, I didn’t drink.
And yet, quietly, for months, there had been signs — extreme fatigue, blurry vision, dramatic weight loss, a constant need to pee… and then blood sugar levels through the roof.
I had 5 grams of sugar per liter of blood — and almost as much acid.
At the ER: “You’ve become type 1 diabetic.”
A sentence that doesn’t really make sense at first.
Numbers. Sensors. Pens. Alarms.
Everything shifts.
You feel like your world is collapsing. Like it’s over. Like life will never be the same again.
I had two options: give in or fight.
I chose to fight — through sport, through cycling.
Mountain biking became my outlet.
My anchor.
My way to reclaim my body.
That’s how Ride your Diabetes was born.
A wild idea. A challenge.
A way to prove that diabetes wouldn’t have the final word.
What if I took on the Mountain of Hell?
One of the most extreme enduro MTB races out there.
2,500 meters of descent. Snow, rocks, speed, crashes.
And me — right in the middle of it all.
With my diabetes… and a hardtail?
Not to win.
Just to prove it can be done. For me and others T1D.
Ride your Diabetes was no longer just my story.
It became a voice. A message. A connection.
I created a YouTube channel. An Instagram account.
That’s where I started sharing my struggles, my progress — sometimes with a bit of humor.

But also behind-the-scenes stuff: the sensors, the hypos, the planning, the adjustments, the mistakes.

With a bit of grit and boldness, I found partners to support me and help spread the word about my project — especially GlucHypo & Capteur Protect!

And above all, I handed over the mic.
To those who inspire me — but who also understand.
Who know mountain biking inside out, so I can, in turn, explain type 1 diabetes.
🎙️ Antoni Villoni, professional rider and must-follow MTB filmmaker.

🎙️ Adrien Loron, professional rider and MOH expert.

🎙️ Romain Gioux, paracycling champion & type 1 diabetic.

🎙️ Dr. Emmanuelle Lecornet Sokol, endocrinologist & diabetologist.

🎙️ Alex Rudeau, 2024 UCI Enduro World Champion.

🎙️ Professor Cosson, co-founder of the SFDT1.

And then came the big day.
Mountain of Hell 2025.
Me, my hardtail, and my diabetes.
No support. No special treatment.
Just a race number like everyone else.
A starting line. And one goal: to finish the qualifiers.

I did it.
I finished the MOH. And on a hardtail, no less.
Because I like to add a bit of challenge.
And also because it was a way to get my project — and the disease — noticed.

Not without fear. Not without crashes. Not without stopping.
But with pride. With a tight finish.
With a heart bursting. And tears flowing.
Finisher.
Not despite diabetes.
But with it.
My story might be a little bit yours.
You didn’t choose this disease.
But you can choose what you do with it.
Type 1 diabetes is not an end.
It’s a space to express yourself. A path to surpass yourself. A driving force.
You too have a story to write.
Your own way to push your limits.
I’m not stopping at the MOH. This was just the beginning.
Follow me, and reach out if you want to.
