On August 26, 2019, my life took an unexpected turn. Unusual symptoms, such as vision problems, a constant urge to urinate, insatiable thirst, significant weight loss, a tendency to fall asleep anywhere, and a near discomfort in the subway finally led me to the emergency room in Nanterre. Between the birth of my son, restless nights, and work, I had attributed these signs to the normal fatigue of everyday life. The emergency room detected a very high blood sugar level (5 grams) and the presence of acids and antibodies, thus revealing the discovery of this type 1 diabetes. Overnight, I could have fallen into a coma. That's how I joined the type 1 diabetes community.

I have decided to share my experience and feelings after a 4-year setback of illness and daily management. I will present this in several episodes.

In order to better understand this disease and its implications, I had the privilege of interviewing Dr. Emmanuelle Lecornet-Sokol, an Endocrinologist and Diabetologist in Paris, and President of FENAREDIAM, representing nearly 700 independent endocrinologists in France. During our conversation, Dr. Lecornet-Sokol shares her expertise on type 1 diabetes, detailing the symptoms that often lead to its diagnosis. She sheds light on the daily aspects of diabetes management, emphasizing the importance of regular blood sugar monitoring with dedicated sensors and highlighting the crucial role of insulin in daily life.

The interview addresses the need for regular exercise in the lives of type 1 diabetics. Dr. Lecornet-Sokol emphasizes the importance of continuous education and enlightens us on current advances in type 1 diabetes research, exploring topics such as innovative treatments and emerging therapeutic approaches, providing a perspective on the future management of this disease.
